We are pleased to inform that 2008 was a very active year for both the NIS and NOR registers.
POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT FOR THE NIS
We experienced a pleasant rise in the number of new registrations and concluded 2008 with 621 ships in the register with a total tonnage of 15 225 053.
In addition to quite a few new registrations at the end of the year, 51 changes of ownership were noted in the month of December alone.
This is an unusually high number and we have to go all the way back to 2004 to find comparable numbers; 131 changes of ownership were then registered throughout the year. GREAT NUMBER OF NEW REGISTRATIONS IN NOR NOR has had a steady increase of registration of new vessels since 2002 with an all time high of 1096 in 2008:
