RINA is now approved as a classification society. ClassNK follows close behind. 11.04.2011
23 September this year the international classification society RINA was recognized as the 6th classification society by Norway.
Accordingly, RINA now has supervision authority and may carry out inspections and certification of Norwegian ships on behalf of Norwegian authorities.
The Norwegian Maritime Directorate is in charge of control of Norwegian ships, while inspections and supervision is partly delegated to the recognized classification societies.
All NIS-registered vessels and some of the ships in NOR are delegated to one of the recognized classification societies:
The Norwegian Veritas, Bureau Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyds Register of Shipping, American Bureau of Shipping.
This list has now been expanded to also include RINA.
ClassNK will be recognized by Norway on November 8th.
