NIS 20 YEARS 06.28.2007 July 1st the NIS celebrates its 20th anniversary
This Sunday it is 20 years since the NIS was established as a means to maintain the maritime environment in Norway. When the doors first opened, the shipowners raced each other in order to get the first ship registered.
Since then, great emphasis has been placed on maintaining the NIS as an attractive quality register. The Norwegian Government’s main objective is for Norway to remain a leading maritime nation both for Norwegian and foreign owners.
In the beginning, the NIS was the fastest growing register in the world and in the early 1990’s over 900 ships were registered. This number has now levelled out at well over 600.
With focus on quality and service, we have a competent and efficient staff, an officer on duty from 7 am until midnight as well as free search options on our website.
