A great increase expected for the NIS 03.26.2010 Shipowners are once again turning to Norway for registration of their fleets
As of today we have issued 68 Certificates of Name for ships intended to be registered under the Norwegian flag, the highest number in a long time. Each ship must have a unique name approved for registration purposes as well as a Norwegian call sign. Accordingly, an application for issuance of a Certificate of Name is very often the first point of contact with the register. Of the 68 above referenced certificates, 4 are concerning change of flag from the Norwegian Ordinary Ship Register whilst 48 are newbuildings. We see a strong tendency that shipowners are moving several ships in their fleet to the NIS. After a period of relatively few new ships entering into the register there is definitely a positive growth in progress. So far this year 28 new ships have entered the register and 25 have been deleted.10 of the 25 have been deleted for scrapping, indicating that more ships are being phased out than normal.
