Due to increased piracy activity, especially in the southern part of Somalia, NIS/NOR vessels shall remain their operations on security level II until exceeded longitude S 04. NIS/NOR vessels are also advised to operate at last 600 nm. distance from Somalia coastal line.

Company Certificates from the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises are no longer required.

As of January 1st 2005, The Norwegian Ship Registers is the authority in charge of issuing instructions regarding the Provisional Certificate of Nationality.

The Norwegian Ship Registers (NIS/NOR) refer to the provisions in SOLAS Chapter XI-1, rule 5, according to which all passenger and cargo vessels of 500 grt and more in international trade are to carry documentation on board concerning the history of the vessel - a ”Continuous Synopsis Record” - CSR.
